I have become my Mamma. I’m serious. But to me, this is a good thing.
Lets travel back in time. As you all know, when I was a young child I grew up in the First Free Methodist Church. Mamma made sure that me and
my siblings went to church every Sunday. Daddy would wake us up with that irritating, “Get up get up in the morning” call. :-)
We would go both to Sunday school, church service and CYC on Wednesday afternoons. It is during church that I know look back and see, I have become my mamma.
We would usually sit in church with mamma. Other times we would go in the back to junior church. When I sat with mamma in church, I would sometimes get a little antsy. I was a young child. Mamma would have lifesavers or certs in her purse. So she did what every good mamma would do, she would bribe me with them. Of course I would sit still.
I can remember sitting next to mamma in church and as the pastor was preaching she would have her Bible on her lap and a pen in her hand. I would watch as she would write little notes in her Bible. I always thought the Bible was so sacred that it was wrong to write in it. As I grew up I realized that it was ok to write in your Bible. So you would learn.
Skip forward over 40 years. Mamma is gone to be with Jesus and Kelsey. Daddy and I go to church Saturday nights at E-Free Church, Ronnie plays in the band there and we have been going there since the door opened. Sunday mornings, Daddy, Debbie (my sister) and I go to the First Free Methodist Church. Yes the church I grew up in.
I sit there with daddy now he hands me life savers and we smile at each other. Remembering how mamma used to hand me lifesavers or certs many years ago. I sit there next to my daddy with my Bible on my lap and a pen in my hand. Just like mamma.
This past weekend I was looking through one of many of mamma’s Bibles. I was amazed and chuckled as I looked through them seeing all the scriptures she circled, underlined, or wrote something by them. You see, my Bible is in the same condition as my mammas. Although I haven’t circled versus, I have underlined many and have many notes next to them.
So you see, I have become my mamma. She has taught all of my family what it really means to be a christian. She left me with wonderful memories. As now Daddy is giving me memories by handing me lifesavers and by sitting next to me and worshiping the Lord.
I thought that for this blog’s scripture I would give you one that mamma had underlined in her Bible.
Ironically the verse has to do with the election of our leaders.
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in Heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or power or RULERS or AUTHORITIES: ALL things were created by him and for him.”
Yes, the Lord creates all things. He has everything planned out for everyone in the universe. Even, who will win this upcoming election.
So in honor of my mamma (January 29, 1936 - November 13, 2015) I am like my mamma. I can’t think of anyone else, other than my daddy, that I would like to be like. I love you more mamma!!!
My prayer to each and every one of you as always is that you ask the Lord to come into your heart. That you have the relationship with him that I have. That we all meet in Heaven one day.
