I’ve been wanting to talk about this subject for some time. Forgiveness. How do we forgive someone that has hurt us really bad? How do we forgive someone that has done something to us? How Do We FORGIVE?
“12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a] but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
I have had several times in my life where I have had to forgive those that have done wrong to me. I’m sure that there has been a time in your life that someone has done you wrong. Did you forgive them? Please tell me you forgave them.
You see in verse 14…. For IF you FORGIVE other people when they have sinned against you….
Your Heavenly FATHER (God) will also forgive you….
So what does this mean. Look at Verse 15. IF you do not FORGIVE others your Father will NOT, let me say it again, YOUR FATHER WILL NOT, forgive your sins.
I don’t think it can any clearer than that.
You know, life sends us trials. Everyone has been through some situation where they have been hurt or have hurt someone else. I know in my life I have done it and it has been done to me. I chose to Forgive. Now when I say I Forgive, I mean REALLY forgive. It happened and it is over. I FORGET about it.
Matthew West has a song that is so perfect for this blog. Maybe because his name is Matthew and the scripture is in the book of Matthew. :-) You all know I absolutely LOVE this man. I have ever song he has written on my phone and listed to him when I lay at Kelsey and now Annie's grave.
Here is the very first verse of his song. If this doesn’t hit it on the head, I don’t know what would.
“ It’s the hardest thing to give away
And the last think on your mind today
It always goes to those who don’t deserve”
“It’s the opposite of how you feel
When the pain they caused is just too real
It takes everything you have just to say the word”
You really have to listen, and I mean really listen to the words of this song. It along with the scripture in Matthew and with this song I have been able to Forgive several people that have caused me harm and hurt in my life.
I can honestly say, it really does set you free.
So, I pray that if anyone is having issues with forgiving someone, that you forgive them today. Like the songwriter Matthew says,
“The prisoner that it really sets free is you”
So take a moment and pray to God to help you Forgive those you need to Forgive.
I pray that you have a relationship with Jesus like I do. I pray that you know Him and ask him to come into your heart. I pray that I see each and everyone of you in Heaven with me someday. HOME!!!!
